Pastels from Skye this week - just a short trip this time but am loving the Autumn evening light
It's a week since Swindon Open Studios last weekend and I finally feel like my brain is able to work again! It's taken ages to get sorted out (and if I'm honest, the house still resembles an art warehouse...as well as all the Avon, Phoenix and market boxes) but also for my creative muscle to work again. Thank you to everyone who attended, baked and supported the exhibition, I truly appreciate it.
Part of my personal Swindon Open Studios exhibition was to try and provide the village with a kind of historical time-point of that weekend - and to integrate cake and biscuits into the mix. I felt I couldn't possibly host something that didn't offer cake (my favourite food!) of some kind. So I asked people to donate cakes for a cake stall and refreshments, and also asked them to bring the recipe along with any memories/anecdote that the recipe brings to mind. We have a wonderful population of cake bakers in Bradenstoke who rarely get any individual recognition. So I made the commitment to illustrate any recipe that accompanied a cake and put them together with the others in some sort of a pamphlet. I did the first one today of Sarah's Vanilla Cupcakes (see picture) below. It's also been forwarded to the village newsletter (The Bradenstoke Bugle) so that potentially one recipe a month could appear there. I'll bring news of the Bradenstoke Cake Stall, September 2015 in future posts.
The sketch also counts towards the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge (www.30paintingsin30days.weebly.com), which I've been somewhat lackadaisical in doing and uploading on a daily basis. Back on Skye next week though, so watch for a mass upload of pastel landscapes :)
Spent last week on Skye - here are my drawings:
