Old Blue Eyes Door

Old Blue Eyes Door
(mixed media on textured paper, 12x16cm)
painted for the Twitter Art Exhibit in aid of the Leukaemia and Intensive Chemotherapy Fund (LINC) which will take place in May
I may be a little creaky, a bit rickety and a tad flaky around the edges but I'll still catch your eye. I may not twinkle or exude the charm I once flourished but old blue eyes here is once seen, never forgotten.
The Twitter Art Exhibit is an annual charity original art sale of postcard-sized artwork submitted by artists around the world. The 2021 exhibition opens on the 15th May and will be available to view and shop online after then. You can keep track of all updates via their website (https://www.twitterartexhibit.org) and on Twitter @twitrartexhibit. Each year a different charity becomes the beneficiary and a different country is chosen to host the exhibition. This year the exhibition is planned to be held in Cheltenham, UK in aid of the Leukaemia and Intensive Chemotherapy Fund (LINC). I'm proud to provide a bespoke painting for the exhibition each year.

Degas-Inspired Life Drawings

6/1/2021

I recently took the opportunity to attend an online life drawing workshop held by the St Ives School of Painting themed on the poses drawn by Edgar Degas.

I've been somewhat reticent to attend online session of late as I find all the screen-staring quite headache-inducing. However, this was different in that I could watch a recording afterwards and take as many breaks as I wanted. Coupled with my love of the School of Painting where I've taken in-person classes before, it seemed like too good a chance to miss.

So, I had the delight of drawing a trained dancer for a couple of hours whilst being able to view the tutor drawing too - quite an unusual privilege. I used charcoal throughout the session on textured paper.

We started off with three short warm-up poses:
This was followed by the model dancing and then stopping briefly before continuing. I drew the poses she held during those moments:
After a break in which the tutor spoke about Degas and his influences, we continued with the final poses. These were of 10-15 min duration:
It was simply fabulous to be life drawing again. The next session is scheduled for the 6th February with a Seurat theme - already pencilled in the diary!
(I don't have any of these drawings for sale on the website but if one catches your eye, you're more than welcome to contact me to discuss a purchase ;0))
