New Life Drawings

14/4/2016

Picture
Have had a bit of a creative block this week whilst trying to focus on the business side of things (my brain can't seem to do both!), so it was lovely to attend a life drawing workshop yesterday. The model was Rosemarie, who I've been privileged to draw many times and still never fails to inspire. I was particularly pleased with the red on grey abstract. Managed to get a sort of ribbon effect. I rarely use red in my drawings and it's something I'll definitely revisit.

Don't forget: there's a FREE E-booklet available from my website: http://www.lynneforrester.com :)

A day with the best of intentions...

11/4/2016

So you know there are those days when you think you're finally going to get on and do what you've been trying to get time (and in my case weather) to do for ages? Well I had high hopes for last Friday. The weather was nice (well, not raining), I'd planned the day so I'd have time to draw a few buildings around Devizes, something I'd been promising my friend Jerry I'd do for months.

There I was, sat on my tripod stool (that causes extreme numbness if perched upon for too long or in the wrong way - left my new fabulous rucksack one in Skye) by the fountain in the middle of Devizes market place which doubles up as a car park when a market isn't there, which it wasn't on Friday. I was attempting to sketch the monument for the first time. Bearing in mind that buildings aren't really my thing - I draw people, sea and mountains far more - I gamely wielded the charcoal and started to make what I hoped were helpful marks on the paper.

Now, I'm used to being watched, talked to, avoided when drawing outside, it's an occupational hazard. On Friday, within the space of twenty minutes I'd been tourist spied, tapped up by religious enthusiasts (who apparently had been watching me from the nearby pub!), had a balance moment and toppled from aforementioned tripod stool and then the heavens opened. Hardly surprising that this is all I have to show for my efforts:

I did however get to see the bevvy of market traders in the Shambles which was so lovely. I miss them now so it was nice to be working close by - am hoping to get more than just the one sketch in before I head north so maybe I'll see them all soon :)
