I can see the Uist-Harris island range on the horizon over The Minch (and all of the tiny islands inbetween) from my house and never tire of watching the colours change from minute to minute. I am utterly transfixed by the scenery and skies in this part of the world and it constantly makes me crave to paint from those inspirational views.
I usually write about my paintings when I first post them in my Journal here on my website. My journal post for this painting was:
A change in picture composition this time - the three islands to the foreground (Isay, Mingay and Clett) have quite a distinctive significance locally, and I managed to catch them at sunset along with North Uist. A boat decided to make it's way across at the same time. This is pretty unusual that late at night (sunsets are now lasting until after 10.30pm here), but I love seeing them sail past when I'm drawing so they have to be included.
